A Latino high school student attempted to rape his former teacher at knife point after following her to her car

Redwood City high school student David Velasquez, 19, has been charged with four felonies including kidnapping to commit rape, criminal threats, false imprisonment and assault with intent to commit rape of a woman. Redwood City police say that Velasquez brandished a knife at the 29-year-old San Francisco teacher in the Summit Preparatory High School garage. The woman was walking to her car in the underground garage when he came out of nowhere, grabbed her from behind and ordered her to get into the car at knife point. He threatened to kill her and it was then the teacher recognized his voice as she had taught him for several years. As they moved toward her car, the teacher intentionally dropped her keys in order to delay the attacker. He is then said to have forced her to the ground and climbed on top of her. Authorities say that Velasquez was interrupted by a fellow teacher who came upon the scene, and ran off when she screamed. He was arrested at his home less than an hour later. He is being held in San Mateo County Jail in lieu of $1 million bail.
