Italy and diversity

This year is the 150th anniversary of Italian unification but many people in Italy are not happy about it. One of the problems is that "Italians" are really a collection of different peoples who just happen to occupy the same geographical region. For example, Sicilians and many people in the south of Italy are really more closely related to Middle Eastern and North African Semites than they are to the Germanic and Celtic peoples living in the north of Italy.
