A fired Hispanic FBI agent has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for making threats against the life of his boss

Forty-nine-year-old Carlos Ortiz faced a maximum 10-year sentence and $250,000 fine after pleading guilty in December 2010 to one count of retaliating against a federal official. In May 2010, Ortiz was placed on leave without pay, pending termination proceedings. In August 2010, he was fired for making threats against Robert E. Casey Jr., Dallas division special agent in charge. The dismissal letter sent to Ortiz included complaints of spousal abuse and described a 1992 encounter with Dallas SWAT officers after Ortiz barricaded himself in his home.
