A black man who claims to be a rape crisis counselor and an ordained minister has been charged with rape

Detectives have arrested 57-year-old Edwin Rosette, Sr. He is being held in the Newport News City Jail without bond. According to police, the victim who is now 19 years old, told investigators she was sexually assaulted by Rosette from the time she was 11 until she was 18 years old. The victim also told investigators that the rapes occurred almost every day. The affidavit states that Rosette dated the alleged victim's mother. The victim also claims Rosette videotaped her. Newport News Detective J.K. Hinton said there could be other victims given the various jobs Rosette claims to do. Police said he worked at Hampton Mental Health Associates off Executive Drive. Hinton said parents need to look for a change in behavior or a change in sleeping or eating patterns, or withdrawal from favorite activities. The investigation is ongoing. Rosette could face additional charges, police said.
